Best Image Size for Instagram in 2026

Use the right Instagram sizes for feed posts, carousels, Stories, Reels covers, profile photos, and grid previews.

The best Instagram image size depends on where the image appears. Feed posts, Stories, Reels covers, profile photos, and grid previews all crop content differently.

For most feed posts in 2026, 1080 x 1350 pixels is the strongest default. It uses a 4:5 portrait ratio, gives more vertical presence than a square post, and is predictable for carousels and designed graphics.

Square posts still work well at 1080 x 1080 pixels, especially for product tiles, quotes, logos, and simple graphic systems. Landscape posts are best around 1080 x 566 pixels when you need a wide frame.

Instagram also supports taller 3:4 photo behavior, so 1080 x 1440 pixels is useful for phone-camera style portraits and profile grid previews. Keep key faces, products, and text near the center to avoid awkward crops.

Stories and Reels covers should be 1080 x 1920 pixels. Because interface controls can cover the top and bottom, keep important text and logos away from the edges and treat the center as the safe area.

For profile photos, upload a square image at 320 x 320 pixels or larger, but remember that Instagram displays it as a circle. Center the subject and avoid tiny text near the corners.
