AVIF vs WebP: Which Format Is Better in 2026?

AVIF and WebP are both modern formats built to make web images lighter. WebP is the practical default because support is broad, tooling is mature, and encoding is usually fast. AVIF is the stronger compression choice when your workflow can handle it.
